CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Ballet/ Jazz
This is a combination class of ballet and jazz dance. The ballet portion will provide an introduction to proper body alignment, arm placement, terminology, and core ballet skills done to classical music. The jazz portion references ballet technique with a turned in style and is characterized by sharp, grounded, and more explosive movement. Jazz is accompanied by pop music. This class will perform one ballet dance and one jazz dance during the annual spring recital.
Ballet/Hip Hop
This is a combination class of ballet and hip hop dance. The ballet portion will provide an introduction to proper body alignment, arm placement, terminology, and core ballet skills done to classical music. The hip hop portion is a street dance style that pulls on traditional and contemporary influences. The movement is highly energetic with an emphasis on complex rhythms, isolations, freestyle, and swag. This class will perform one ballet dance and hip hop dance during the annual spring recital.
Ballet/Tap
This is a combination class of ballet and tap dance. The ballet portion will provide an introduction to proper body alignment, arm placement, terminology, and core ballet skills done to classical music. The tap portion is characterized by the sound of metal taps on special shoes. Fundamental tap skills will be taught in a stationary and travelling format with an emphasis on exploring rhythms through a range of percussive sounds. This class will perform one ballet dance and one tap dance during the annual spring recital.
Jazz/ Hip Hop
This is a combination class of jazz dance and hip hop. The jazz portion pulls on traditional, broadway, and contemporary techniques in a style that is characterized by sharp, grounded, and explosive movement. Jazz is accompanied by pop music and will include a warm up to improve strength and flexibility, progressions that help instill new skills, and combinations to engage memory and performance. The hip hop portion is a street dance style that pulls on traditional and contemporary influences. The movement is highly energetic with an emphasis on complex rhythms, isolations, freestyle, and swag. This class will perform one jazz dance and one hip hop dance during the annual spring recital.
Hip Hop
A street dance style that pulls on traditional and contemporary influences such as popping, locking, waving, breaking, and newer social dances such as the “woah”. The movement is highly energetic with an emphasis on complex rhythms, isolations, freestyle, and swag. Popular skills will be taught in a stationary and travelling format that builds coordination and musicality. Short combinations will be taught throughout the year to improve memory and performance skills. This class will perform one hip hop dance during the annual spring recital.
Musical Theater
This is an exploration of American musical theater that involves music, acting, and dance. Each class will include a stretch and warm up, performance exercises that hone in on displaying various emotions, storytelling, and dance as a narrative tool. The dance styles will primarily focus on Broadway and jazz dance but hip hop and ballroom can be included as well. This class will perform a scene from a musical during the annual spring recital.
Dance Fitness
This is a cardio based class that alternates between high and low intensity movements. The class begins with a center warm up, then progresses to introduce basic travelling dance moves, jumps into an easy to follow dance combination, and concludes with a cool down stretch. No prior dance experience is required for this class and it can be joined on any day the class is in session.
Yoga
This class will teach the foundational yoga postures while promoting strength, flexibility, and breath in the body. Yoga is characterized by calm and focused movement that provides an effective mind and body workout. This class can be joined on any day the class is in session
